You may discover as you read these essays that the thesis statements don't appear for several paragraphs. Do you see any problem with this? Or is it an effective way to begin an article?
What else could the authors have improved in these essays? What did they do well?
It seemed like Hole dragged his thoughts too much. I feel he needed to get to a point so I actually knew what he was going to talk about in his essay. I don't like reading articles/ essays where I have to look near the bottom of the page to find the thesis. I like when they are to the point nearer to the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI agree. While this method may be different than a majority of essays, and being different can be beneficial when looking to attract attention, I think it works negatively in this case. Unless the reader can get to the point and know what exactly they're reading about, they'll begin to lose interest because until a thesis statement is made the writing just sounds like it's all over the place.

I agree with Jenna. I don't necessarily care about where the thesis is, but the thoughts dragged like the author was forcing something on paper. It was hard for me to stay interested.

Hole has a good point ... once he got to it. If a student receives an F, he probably won't have a lot of good things to say about that professor, and he might of deserved it in the first place.

I found myself in some classes where the students absolutely hated the instructor. They blamed the instructor for their inability to grasp the subject. I had a hard time, but I picked up the textbook and read it. The student blamed the instructor for their lack to realize they are in college. By my experience, I believe that some evaluations should be discarded.

I agree amber!! Some times we deserve an F
DeleteIt was hard for me to get interested in a paper that I didn't know where it was going. I found both made valid points but I didn't see where they all tied together until the very end. I found the writing style to be forced and confusing.

I agree with Jason. I was feeling the same way throughout the article. I felt like I couldn't get into what he was saying and it was hard to focus.

I agree, this paper was not very entertaining. If I wasn't required to read this for class there is no way I would have finished reading the article.
DeleteI think that you can not get a accurate rating, there many factors involved.

Student evaluations are useless in my opinion. Spend the money you used to make the evaluation to do something for students. The letter grade schools give me is much more important than the letter grade I give the school.
