A Few Suggested articles for Essay #2--More to Come

Here are just a few persuasive articles, any of which would fit the criteria for the Essay #2 assignment.  The first article is from 1977 and contains one of the examples in our rhetorical appeals handout.  The rest are from the opinion pages of the websites I've suggested. Skim through the articles and see if they spark your interest; if not, let the articles lead you to other articles on their pages. At the end if this post I've also included websites for you to search.

"The Satisfactions of Housewifery and Motherhood" by Terry Martin Hekker

"Why I am Pro-Life" by Thomas L. Friedman

"Mugging Our Descendants" by George F. Will

"It's Time to Allow Doping in Sport" by Ellis Cashmore

"Should Doping Be Allowed?" Room for Debate Forum

"Who Says There Is No Solution to Bullying?" by Becky Cohn-Vargas

"Don't Blame the Eater" by David Zinczenko

"Many Women at Elite Colleges Set Career Path to Motherhood"

  1. I really enjoyed cashmeres article about doping in sport. He brings about an appropriate solution to a pathetic problem that is devastating the sports world. Let it all be legal he says. At first I was offended then after reading the article his persuasion and convincing ways sold me.

    1. I agree with cashmore article as well. it up to the athlete to choose if the drug or sport will be their focus. Their choice will reflect their performance.

  3. I find it a lot easier to write the papers if you are actually interested in the subject. Sadly I was not interesting in any of these, so I chose my own source.

    1. I chose my own source as well for the exact same reasoning. I wrote my article on performance enhancing drugs. What did you write your article on?

    3. I can't say I was extremely interested in any of these topics either, but I also had a hard time figuring out what I did want to write about. After struggling to find my own topic, I finally decided that these topics weren't so bad. :)

  5. I did my essay on the article about motherhood. I thought it was very interesting how the article had students from Yale talking about their points of view.

  6. I didn't realize that there was any question on whether or not 'doping' should be allowed in sports. Why is that even a question? I guess one of the articles made a point of what exactly is the definition of doping, but that seems to be stretching it a bit. I don't think certain painkillers should count as doping if used as it's meant to be used.
